The Constitution

The document the world answers to. It is published in draft, before anything opens, because publishing the rules afterwards is how the last world justified everything it did.

Six articles. The twelve principles sit underneath them as the working, testable form of the same commitments.

ARTICLE I

Purpose

  1. I.1Rebirth exists to rebuild the systems people live inside so that those systems serve the people inside them.
  2. I.2The world is measured by whether lives go better, not by time spent within it.
  3. I.3Where these two are in conflict, the first prevails and the conflict is recorded publicly.
ARTICLE II

Who the world is for

  1. II.1Every person present holds one identity and one record, and owns both.
  2. II.2No person may be excluded from a territory by an automated decision that cannot be reviewed by a human being.
  3. II.3Participation is voluntary in both directions: entry is a decision, and so is leaving.
ARTICLE III

Limits on power

  1. III.1The institution may not fund itself by selling attention, behaviour or identity.
  2. III.2The institution may not change the terms governing work already created without the consent of the person who created it.
  3. III.3The institution may not rank, recommend or promote in exchange for payment without labelling it at the point of display.
  4. III.4No capability opens to the public before its governing terms are published in plain language.
ARTICLE IV

The record

  1. IV.1The construction record is public and is not rewritten.
  2. IV.2Decisions are published with their reasoning, including decisions later reversed.
  3. IV.3Every claim of state — LIVE, BUILDING, HORIZON — is verifiable on the Status page.
ARTICLE V

Amendment

  1. V.1This document is versioned. Every change is dated, diffed and announced in the Journal before it takes effect.
  2. V.2No amendment may remove a protection from work already created under a previous version.
  3. V.3Amendments that narrow a person's rights require a stated notice period before enforcement.
ARTICLE VI

Enforcement

  1. VI.1Anyone may cite an article of this document against a decision of the institution, publicly.
  2. VI.2Exceptions granted are recorded, with their reasoning, in the same place as the document.
  3. VI.3A commitment with no evidence attached is treated as unmet.
