THE ECONOMY / 12.0000

What you make stays yours

An economy is a set of answers to one question: when someone creates something, where does the value settle? Here, it settles on the person and the record they own.

Ledger surfaces at Milestone 3. Everything below is stated in advance of that.

02THE CYCLE

Five verbs, in order

Nothing in this sequence can be skipped by paying. Each stage produces the evidence the next one consumes.

  1. 01LEARNCapability, not attendanceA learning path ends in something demonstrable. What you can do is recorded; where you sat is not.BUILDING
  2. 02BUILDWork in publicProjects are objects with history. The record of making something is part of the thing you made.BUILDING
  3. 03PROVEEvidence with sources keptVerification names its source and its date. An unverified claim renders as unverified rather than disappearing.BUILDING
  4. 04EARNOutcomes that need someoneOpportunities are matched against records, not against keywords. Payment is attached to the outcome, not the hour.HORIZON
  5. 05OWNWhat you make stays yoursCreated work carries ownership forward, including out of the platform. Portability is a property of the object, not a support request.HORIZON
03WHERE VALUE MOVES

Four flows, and no fifth

If value ever appeared to move some other way, the observatory would be showing a number nobody can account for. That is the test.

INFLOWF01

Acquisition

REB enters circulation once, at a fixed supply, with allocation published before the first unit moves.

CIRCULATIONF02

Earned issuance

Completed and verified undertakings release REB from the founding reserve to the citizen who did the work.

CIRCULATIONF03

Citizen to citizen

Work commissioned inside the civilization settles directly between two records, with no intermediary taking a cut of the person.

OUTFLOWF04

Civic expenditure

Infrastructure, verification and the observatory are funded from a published treasury line, not from selling what citizens made.

04CONSTRAINTS

Three rules the economy is built on

They are constraints on us, not features for you, which is why each one appears in the Principles as something enforceable.

  • Records are never sold.A person's record is not inventory. There is no version of this civilization that ends in selling it.
  • No ranking of people.Matching happens against what a record contains, never against a score assigned to a human being.
  • Leaving takes your work with you.Portability is a property of the object model, so exit costs nothing but the decision.
